Should You Accept Any Job Offer?

The COVID-19 pandemic has made it increasingly more difficult for those recently laid off to find work.

The uncertainty of the job market makes one wonder if he or she should simply accept any job offer they come across.  Well, the decision to accept a new job offer completely depends on your specific situation. If your financial status looks grim, and you’re currently out of work, your options are limited. You may have little to no choice other than to consider taking a position outside your skill level or industry. Doing this, for the short term, can prove to be a smart move while searching for a role that best suits your professional background.

It’s important to realize that taking any job, while not ideal, can be a good thing. It’s not only a way to generate income, but it will also keep you active. Don’t perceive the notion of accepting any job offer as taking a step backwards. Instead, consider it a lateral, side step. Diving into something new, within a different industry, may sound scary but it could be the first step toward career growth.

Of course, with any job, you need to determine, a baseline, minimum salary for you to be able to live off.  You’ll also need to factor in commuting time, (unless it’s work you can perform remotely). One option may be to consider contract work. Remember, this is a different job market, so get creative and always keep your rĂ©sumĂ© updated.

And never overlook the power of networking. Research has shown that 70% of jobs are found through networking. So, tap your contacts. Do it right and you may find something surprising – and quicker than you expected.  Be sure to always, keep in mind that ultimately, no matter what the job is – give it your all. You may be surprised the growth potential it offers.

And most importantly, you just might discover something new, not just about the job, but about yourself.
