Probationary Period
A probationary period is a trial phase during the beginning of an employee’s employment, typically ranging from a few weeks to several months, during which the employer evaluates the employee’s performance, behavior, and overall fit for the organization.
During this time, the employee may not be entitled to the same benefits as permanent employees, and either party can terminate the employment relationship with less notice or without cause. The probationary period allows both the employee and employer to assess whether the position is suitable before making a long-term commitment.
At the end of the probationary period, the employee may be confirmed as a permanent employee, extended for further evaluation, or let go if expectations are not met.
