Form 944 is a tax form used by small employers to report and pay federal income taxes, Social Security, and Medicare taxes withheld from employee wages. This form is similar to Form 941, but it is filed annually rather than quarterly. Employers who owe $1,000 or less in federal payroll taxes annually are eligible to file Form 944. It allows small employers to simplify their reporting and payment process by filing once a year, typically by January 31st for the previous tax year. This form helps the IRS track the taxes withheld and ensure compliance with federal tax obligations.
