A lateral move refers to a change in an employee’s job position within an organization where the role or level of responsibility is similar to their previous position, and the compensation remains the same. Unlike a promotion, a lateral move does not involve a higher rank or increase in pay but may offer other benefits, such as gaining new skills, experiencing a different department or team, or exploring other aspects of the organization. Lateral moves can be a valuable opportunity for employees to broaden their experience and career development without a change in job title or salary.
