Form W-3 is a summary form used by employers to transmit all the individual Form W-2s to the Social Security Administration (SSA) at the end of the year. It provides a summary of the total wages, tips, and other compensation paid to all employees, as well as the total amount of taxes withheld. Employers must submit Form W-3 along with their W-2 forms when filing with the SSA, which is used to track employees’ earnings and verify their contributions to Social Security and Medicare. The W-3 helps the IRS and SSA reconcile income and tax data for each employee.
