The end of Daylight Savings Time is fast approaching in the U.S. and all clocks will need to be turned back an hour on November 1.
If you’re a savvy business owner, you might be wondering how this affects your time clocks, and how it will affect the record-keeping of your employees’ worked time.
To address the first concern, FingerCheck’s time clocks actually automatically adjust when Daylights Saving Time begins and ends! You won’t ever need to manually adjust our clocks.
To address the second concern, employees working during the end of Daylights Saving Time (which technically ends at 2:00 AM) are at risk for being recorded improperly due to the clock winding back an hour. This is precisely why FingerCheck recently integrated a new feature that adds an hour when DTS ends, (and deducts one when it begins!).
This feature automatically triggers as long as you’ve selected a time zone within your employees’ master profiles. If you have offices in multiple locations, make sure that the master profiles that are assigned to them are synced to the correct time zone. For instance, employees located in California work according to Pacific Time vs. employees located in New York, who work according to Eastern Time. When you’re done make sure to click “Save.”
If you read this article after Daylight Savings Time has ended, you can still use this feature. Simply go to your employees’ master profiles, set the time zone, and then go to the “Time Card” tab to recalculate your employees’ hours. Once you make this change, you can rest assured knowing that you won’t have to lift a finger to correct time tracking mistakes due to the start and end of Daylight Savings Time.
