“Contactless” Technology to Become the New Norm

As Memorial Day approaches, so does the slow and cautious re-opening of businesses throughout the nation. Public officials in each state have implemented strict guidelines to contain the spread of COVID-19, with some make face covering a requirement.

Some states have even mandated employers to screen employees’ body temperature with thermal scanners to avoid symptomatic employees from coming in contact with staff to make the workplace safer for all.

Navigating the pandemic has evolved and since it’s the peak – we’ve seen it take many turns. With lockdown restrictions loosened, we are now seeing the vital role technology can (and will) play in to protect people and limit the virus’ spread.  More and more retail stores have taken advantage of “contactless” self-checkout kiosks that require zero human contact.

Beyond retail, even the travel industry is making more strides to go “contactless”.  According to a “road map” outlined by international aviation experts, air travel in the age of COVID-19 will likely be a more socially distant, do-it-yourself experience. It will rely on travelers to wear masks, take body temperature scans, and even check their own baggage.

Airports, airlines, and health officials will play a role to develop systems to track and contact passengers should a traveler be diagnosed with the virus. The road ahead is still not perfectly clear, but we can be sure of one thing – “touchless technology” in all facets of society will increase and become the “new norm”.
