Reduce Your Office’s Carbon Footprint by Kicking the Paper Habit

Just about every industry these days is talking about going green, even those that are obviously detrimental to the environment, but what does “going green” really mean outside of being an easily marketed buzzword?

Fingercheck’s online time clocks allow your office to keep track of attendance and payroll without having to use any paper at all. Rather than buying, using and then throwing away paper time cards or scheduling sheets, Fingercheck offers a cheaper and more sustainable model of attendance management.

If that doesn’t sound like much, consider the incredible impact of paper on the environment. Paper production is the third largest industrial polluter in both the United States and Canada, releasing over 100 million kg of toxic pollution annually. Paper production is also the fifth largest consumer of energy in the world and uses more water per capita than any other industry. Additionally, paper manufacturing emits nitrogen dioxide and sulfur dioxide, which contribute to acid rain, as well as carbon dioxide, the gas responsible for global climate change.

Paper waste accounts for up to 40% of municipal solid waste in the United States and even paper recycling can be a source of pollution, thanks to the process of deinking paper and sludge it subsequently produces. Whenever possible, it’s much better to simply not use paper at all. Luckily, Fingercheck’s employee time clock software makes that option a reality.
