We know that a common time tracking issue for many businesses is how to accurately record the hours of overnight employees working during the Daylight Savings Timeshift. The problem is simple enough to understand – the Daylight Savings Time adjustment causes time to spring forward an hour, adding an hour onto employees’ time cards.
Without careful monitoring, many companies risk unintentionally paying their employees for an additional hour they didn’t actually work. To offset this, employers are typically required to manually edit their employees’ hours to avoid paying them an additional hour. Additionally, many companies also have to manually change their clocks to reflect the new change in time.
However, with FingerCheck, not only do our clocks change automatically, but our employee clock in the software also automatically corrects employees’ hours during the shift. We have just integrated a new feature within our system that automatically deducts an hour for overnight shifts occurring during Daylight Savings Time and adds an hour when Daylight Savings Time ends. How does our new feature work? FingerCheck knows how to calculate the hours based on the time zone selected on each employee’s master profile. Since there is a master profile assigned to every employee, the system will automatically work in accordance with each employee’s assigned time zone. Setup takes just a few quick manual steps, and once the feature is activated, you’ll never have to configure it again.
Here’s how to do so. If Daylight Savings Time has already passed and you didn’t input your employees’ time zone within their master profile, you can do so now and recalculate the hours.
