The number of job openings in the U.S. is at an all-time high. So, if you’re seeking a new job, we thought it would a good time to review some useful tips that help job seekers avoid leaving a bad impression.

Take the time to research the company you’re interviewing with. Get familiar with their history and find out about any recent company news or announcements. You can easily locate this by viewing their website, checking their LinkedIn company page, or doing a simple online search. Going into any interview not knowing anything about the company’s products, services, or culture, is going to show during your conversation.

Ask Questions

This is the one area job seekers often skip which turns out to be a missed opportunity on multiple levels. Asking a question will usually depend on what was covered during the interview. Typically, you should have some prepared or ask about something that was discussed. It will show a level of professionalism and ambition. Furthermore, it lets hiring managers know that you are a serious candidate. Even asking questions of the interviewer shows you’re interested in them as a person—and that’s a great way to build rapport and stand out.

Virtual Interviews

Like everything else during the pandemic, job interviews are happening more and more online. So, when it comes to a virtual interview, we can’t forget to mention some of the most obvious items to be aware of.

• Ensure a strong internet connection
• Eliminate any distracting backgrounds
• Dress appropriately
• Speak clearly

It’s important during a virtual interview to pay attention to your voice. Speaking clearly and projecting your voice is something to also do on in-person interview as well. However, when at home, you may tend to speak more casually or softer. Doing this will make you sound purposeful in your responses and in the manner by which you get your point across. You want to end the interview leaving a final impression that you’re calm, confident, and interested.
